Zante Holidays: Get a Greek Fix in Zante
If you desire a vacation rich in culture and history, topped off by brilliant sun and white-sand beaches, then it's high time to head to Greece. And in terms of location, Zante holidays are talked about forever.
The third largest of the Ionian Islands, Zakynthos, known by its shorter name to English speakers, is a paradise to behold.
Homer, one of the greatest poets on Earth, may also agree. He wrote about Zante and its inhabitants in his masterpieces 'The Iliad' and 'The Odyssey'. Considering that Homer lived in around 850BC, you can see that Zante has a seemingly ever-lasting history.
So, as well as relaxing beachside during your Zante holiday, it's recommended that you do take in some of this unique and important history.
There are many options for this on the island, including the Byzantine Museum, which holds many ancient relics and artefacts, or the Venetian Castle.
After a moderate hike to get to the castle, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views across the island. This castle was also once inhabited by poet Dionysios Solomos, who wrote a poem that is now the Greek National Anthem!
After sightseeing you are sure to be boiling in this Mediterranean retreat, so it will definitely be time to enjoy Zante's crystal blue water.
The Alykes and Alikanas beaches are popular because they are long, wide, and boast beautiful sand, but are also surrounded by picturesque taverns and cafes that are much needed thirst-quencher stop-offs.
Any holiday in Zante will be refreshing, relaxing, and memorable. Just be sure to take plenty of sunscreen, a good hat, and of course your camera.
It will definitely come in handy while watching one of Zante's devastatingly beautiful sunsets.
