Where to ski in summer months
While most look forward to the warm summer months where all their summer sporting gear can get used, others may be extremely sad to pack away their winter equipment. Thankfully for all you ski lovers, there are plenty of great places to ski over the summer months. Here are a few top class places to look into if you are feeling ski-deprived.
Semnoz - Wikimedia
Zermatt-Cervinia is a shared ski area on the border between Switzerland and Italy where the European National Ski team train. Skiers can enjoy the 13 blue and red runs that stretch over 26.5km near Matterhorn. Ski in one country in the morning and simply cross the border for some more action after lunch. These runs open from early May until mid October in Switzerland and late June to early September in Italy.
Whether you enjoy blue, red or black runs, Tignes in France has something for you. The 20km of slopes are open from mid June to early August only in the early morning to early afternoon. If you are tired of skiing, head out and play some tennis or beach volleyball with the Sportignes card that is included if you stay at participating accommodations.
Another great place to go to in France is Les Deux Alpes. They are open in the morning hours in mid June through the end of August. This is home to one of the largest summer ski areas in Europe with 11 runs, 16 lifts and 18 hectares that are a designated freestyle area. If you stay here for more than two days your pass will include other fun activities such as swimming and tennis.
Stubai Glacier in Austria has a wide range of slopes and runs to choose from as well. Unlike many of the other resorts, this place is open all day from early May through early July. There are over 1,450 hectares of slopes, 62 km of groomed runs that range from green to black and 26 lifts available.
