Where the seriously rich honeymoon, plus options for mere mortals.
With a certain prince and princess having chosen a luxury private-island honeymoon break in the Seychelles, we’ve taken a look at destinations which offer not just high-end, but almost off the scale honeymoon luxury, then come up with an alternative for those who are looking for romance at a fraction of the price.
The warmth of the Caribbean, with its white beaches and exotic cocktails makes it a tempting choice for a romantic holiday. If after splurging on the wedding you have loads of money left over, then a week at the Jade Mountain Resort in the south of St Lucia is for you. The suites all have infinity pools with fabulous views of the majestic Pitons and the place oozes romance and decadence, reports the Independent.
ITC Classics (itc-classics.co.uk) offers a week’s full board plus flights from Gatwick from £4,150. This includes a generous Romance package which features a massage, jungle biking and a half day sailing on a skippered yacht, as well as a ‘welcome’ cocktail and bottle of champagne.
But if you’re on a tighter budget, you can still head for the Caribbean with a do-it-yourself itinerary. Fly to Barbados from Gatwick with Virgin Atlantic (www.virgin-atlantic.com) or British airways (www.ba.com) and stay at the Sea-U Guest House (www.seaubarbados.com) at Bethsheba. It’s a sophisticated B&B on the Atlantic coast with its magnificent breakers, and has verandahs for lounging and hammocks strung between palm trees. Prices start at £80 per night with breakfast and honeymooners receive a chilled bottle of champagne on arrival and fresh flowers.
