What’s on in Alicante this month?
Alicante is one of our most popular ‘costa’ destinations as, with its sizzling sunshine, vibrant nightlife and Mediterranean vibe, it’s such a contrast to life back home. It’s also amply served by low cost flights from our regional airports. Easy Jet (www.easyjet.com) flies there from Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Newcastle and Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) from a massive 13 UK airports.
But if you’re looking for something more than just the beach, we have a couple of suggestions. Firstly, the famous Canadian troupe, Cirque du Soleil (www.cirquedusoleil.com), who never fail to impress, is already in town and will be performing their new show, ‘Corteo’, until the 28th of August in the Recinto Ferial de Rebasa (+34 917 911 280). Part circus, part contemporary dance, part avant-garde theatre, the show will delight adults and children alike.
Secondly, the town’s high-tech Archaeological Museum, voted European Museum of the Year in 2004, is showing a major exhibition of 500 pieces from St Petersburg’s world-famous Hermitage, including 4th century BC jewellery, the famous funeral masks of Tashtyk and some later beautiful Byzantine icons and crosses. Visit www.marqalicante.com/ermitage/ for more details and don’t miss a unique opportunity to see this amazing collection.
