What’s happening on the cruise scene?

Anyone and everyone is taking to the seas, it seems, with the burgeoning cruise market proving to be the fastest growing sector in the travel industry. According to the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), a massive 1.7 million Britons will go on a cruise holiday this year, reports the Daily Mail. While the rest of the travel market struggles and reduces its prices, sea dogs keep signing up for more.

The PSA’s recent survey revealed that Brits are attracted to the idea of sightseeing in so many different places in one holiday and by the great value all-inclusive deals. In the words of its director, ‘it’s an effortlessly way to visit many great destinations across the world while only unpacking once.’

So which is the favourite port of call for these discerning voyagers? The answer is New York, which replaces Venice after two years at the top. Barcelona, Rome and Singapore shared third place.

So when you’re choosing your cruise for next year, keep in mind that sailing into New York harbour is an amazing experience that you won’t want to miss. Check out Cunard’s website (cunard.com) for transatlantic cruises from Southampton to the Big Apple.
