Florida, also known as the Sunshine State, attracts people from all different walks of life. Many associate Florida with spring break or the magical Disney World, but there is so much more to the place than meets the eye. Here are just a few ideas to make your Florida trip perfect for you.
Outdoor lovers must head to Everglades National Park. Rent a bike for the day and cycle along the paths while breathing in the fresh air or explore the park up close and personal on foot. Anyone interested in wildlife needs to witness the amazing ecosystem that resides within the wetlands and forests. Turtles, crocodiles live side by side with Florida Panthers and West Indian Manatees for a really surreal day out. December to March is the best time to visit in order to avoid the nasty mosquitoes which can be quite aggressive.
History buffs will be very interested in paying a visit to St. Augustine, aka the “Ancient City”. Castillo de San Marcos can be found there and offers a unique insight into US History. They also display period costumes, canons and other unique artifacts. Other interesting sites in the area include the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, the Oldest Wooden School House in America and Fort Matanzas National Monument.
Those of you who prefer to spend time on an island, hop on a boat to Amelia Island. Known for beautiful beaches, golfing, water sports and horseback riding, this place will not disappoint any holidaymaker. There are 2 large festivals held here every year: the Concours d’Elegance where prestigious cars and their proud owners gather and the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. You can also head off to Fort Clinch State Park for a spot of hiking, birding, camping and even observing a reenactment of military life on the island.
Party seekers will want to flock to South Beach also known as SoBe, an area that is synonymous with Spring Break so keep that in mind when picking dates. Whether you are into chill lounges, wild dance clubs or dive bars, you will find whatever you desire here. It is the perfect place to people watch as you are bound to see an eclectic array of revellers. The beautiful sandy beach and blue water make for the perfect place to relax during the day before you get spruced up for a night on the town.
