Treat yourself to a night of luxury in the Andaz Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York.
New York City’s Andaz Fifth Avenue Hotel (andaz.com) may be spanking new but it’s housed in a 1916 limestone and brick building, slap bang in the city centre just a few blocks from Grand Central Terminal and a short walk from Fifth Avenue shops, from where, presumably, it gets its name. It’s a name that evokes style, and among the events held at the Andaz Fifth Avenue during the recent Fashion Week was a party hosted by Vogue, reports the New York Times. Aiming for a cool image, the hotel, with its high-ceilinged lobby and tall glass doors, has already proved a draw for the in-crowd.
Staff are trained in how to establish an instant rapport with guests and the service is cheerful and non-snobby. Room service is a cut above the rest, offering a regular menu, plus ‘make your own’ options that allow you to get just what you want all in the space of around 30 minutes. There’s also a bistro style restaurant, called the Shop, if you prefer that sense of occasion.
The rooms are spacious and light and have all mod cons including an iPod dock, and nonalcoholic mini bar items are free as is the wireless Internet. The bathroom is huge and contains a seat and shallow basin in the shower area so you can soak your feet after beating the streets.
At £290 per night for a room with king size bed, this hotel doesn’t come cheap but the whole experience plus the extras (free coffee, water or soda the evening you check in and free-flowing wine in the lobby seating area) make you feel regal. It would certainly be a cool Christmas gift for that special person!
