But if you're currently suffering from the effects of jetlag, what can you do to minimise the symptoms?

  • Don't plan any activities for the first day of your holiday. Take it easy and give your body time to adjust.
  • Natural light helps to reset your body clock. If it's day when you arrive, take yourself outside for a 30 minute walk.

  • Stay hydrated. Even mild dehydration can magnify the effects of jet lag and leave you feeling drained and tired.
  • Avoid heavy exercise near bedtime. Strenuous activities can delay sleep, so schedule sports for early in the day.
  • Take a hot bath before bedtime. The drop in your body temperature can help to induce sleep.
