Things to Do on Your Phuket Holiday
Thailand’s Phuket province is a truly captivating destination with its breathtaking white sand beaches and year-round warm weather. No wonder Conde Nast Traveler named it one of the world’s top islands in 2007.
Experience a very different Phuket holiday; leave the beach behind to explore its other attractions. Phuket FantaSea calls itself “the ultimate night-time cultural theme park,” and features the Phuket FantaSea show, a grand exhibition of Thai culture highlighted by trapeze artists, performing elephants, and a fireworks and special effects display.
Take a tour of the province and discover Phuket’s scenic allure. Visit Promthep Cape, one of Phuket’s most photographed destinations. Climb up the lighthouse, and take in the stunning view of infinite blue waters interrupted only by Phi Phi Islands, Koh Racha Yai, and Koh Racha Noi. Time your visit so you can catch one of the dramatic sunsets. Not too far from the cape is the array of towering windmills at the Phromthep Alternative Energy Station. Perched atop a hill and framed by the waves of the sea, the windmills offer a spectacular sight.
Get to know more about Thailand’s spiritual tradition by visiting the temples of Phuket. Wat Chalong in Tambol Chalong, “the pride of Phuket,” houses Poh Than Jao Wat, a significant Buddhist statue. The Grand Pagoda houses what devout Buddhists believe is a fragment of Buddha’s bone. Visit Wat Suwan Khiri Ket temple along Karon Beach, surrounded by two huge emerald green serpents. Inside you’ll find artefacts that chronicle the life of Buddha.
