Few countries can rival Thailand for its idyllic scenery and picture-perfect beaches. If you're heading on Thailand island holidays, here are your best bets...
Ko Samui is one of Thailand's most developed islands. You'll find lots of home comforts (including a McDonalds!), good nightlife and plenty of activities. Hat Patong is one of the best beaches and Samui's main drag. There's also plenty of secluded coves if you're craving peace and quiet. Luxurious resorts and gorgeous scenery make Ko Samui a very popular honeymoon destination.
Ko Pha Ngan
Ko Pha Ngan is backpacker central, though don't let that put you off! Home of the legendary full moon party, the island is a great place to let your hair down. If you're not a party animal, head towards the north coast. There's beautiful white sandy beaches to rival any on Samui. Cookies resort on Haad Salad is highly recommended for it's gorgeous views and tasty food.
Ko Tao is world famous for its diving, and PADI courses here are some of the cheapest around. There's a great atmosphere on the island, and the little towns aren't nearly as manic as those you'll find on Ko Pha Ngan or Ko Samui. Many a traveller stays longer than planned after falling in love with Ko Tao!
Ko Phi Phi
After a couple of weeks in Thailand, all those gorgeous beaches that would have once made your jaw drop will fail to raise your eyebrows. The cure? Head to the Andaman coast. Ko Phi Phi is home to the Beach (from The Beach movie) among dozens of other insanely beautiful spots.
Phuket is the Thailand that you see on postcards: the rugged limestone cliffs, silken sands, turquoise waters and longtail boats. It's a big enough island to house both touristy resorts and remote coves. Don't miss a trip to the nearby peninsula of Railey - one of Thailand's most spectacular beaches.
Can't decide where to go? Island-hop!
