Do you want to get away from the grey skies, the cold wind and the dreary rain this winter? You can head to a sunny destination for a little while and soak up the sun-rays while you can before returning home again. Here are a few sunny winter destinations both near and far that will get you feeling all warm and fuzzy.

Those of you that don’t mind a long flight and enjoy exploring Asian culture might think about heading to Myanmar for a winter break. This 13 hour flight will plant you in a warm country that is in the middle of their dry season with little to no rain to remind you of home. During winter, the temperatures average around 30 degrees Celsius meaning it is not too hot. You can enjoy a relaxing time on beaches that are quiet and full of serenity. After exploring the temples and sights, make sure to dress warm in the evenings as the temperature do drop to be quite cool during the nights.
The tropical country of Cambodia is another unique sunny destination to go to if you are looking for somewhere off the beaten track. Temperatures skirt the high 20s during the day and rarely drop below the 20s at night. Winter is also dry season here with low humidity making it the most touristy time of year. With so much to see, including Angkor Wat and Siem Reap, make sure to spend some time exploring the south coast, especially if you fancy a bit of scuba diving. The water is crystal clear during winter around Kep or Sihanoukville making it perfect to get up close and personal with the sea life.
If Asia doesn’t sound appealing, why not visit Guatemala in Central America. Winter is their dry season as well meaning tourists flock here over the winter months. Guatemala has a great mix of rich Mayan and Spanish culture, nightlife and relaxation. The landscape manages to hold its' green colour without a sign of rain. If you are looking to ratchet up the heat, you could spend a day exploring the active Volcan Pacaya near Antigua - it will be an experience you won’t forget! Make sure to book your accommodation beforehand as it fills up quickly during this time.
Short Skip and a Jump
Beach lovers who are just looking for a nearby place to escape to can always jump over to the popular island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. It’s a short journey but the sun shines brightly there and warms up to the mid 20s and stays in the high teens in the evenings. It’s the ideal place to relax and warm up and hang out by the beach during the day and sip a cocktail or two in the evening. With bars, clubs and quality restaurants all over the island you will have a winter break to remember.
