Staycationing this year? Explore British woodlands!

The long school holidays are not over yet, and if the kids are starting to get a bit frazzled and you’re a tad cash-strapped this year, pack a picnic and head for the woods. There are nearly 14,000 woodlands across the UK, reports the Daily Mail and now there's a new website to help you find the one nearest to you.

The Woodland Trust, the Forestry Commission, the National Trust and the RSPB, amongst others, have joined together to map thousands of UK woodlands on a new user-friendly website, www.visitwoods.org.uk. You simply type in your postcode and the website will display a list of woods within five miles of your home on an interactive map, with individual maps, its facilities and sometimes photos.

Looking for a wood with a café, free parking or a loo? There are boxes you can tick to help you to refine your search. There’s also some useful general advice on things like the 10 top campsites with woods nearby or the best woods near motorway junctions, what to wear etc. So if you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids for a day out, check out this new website .
