Spooky Halloween is just around the corner
Legend has it that the 31st October, the eve before All Hallows (or All the Saints) is the night when ghosts and witches are at their most active - but never fear: wearing costumes and masks is said to ward them off. And as we all just love to don weird and wonderful spooky clothes and have a ball, Halloween provides the perfect excuse to party, not only for kids but for adults too.
With the 31st on the horizon, if you’re in a fun loving mood, you may well be thinking about where you can go to celebrate. Nowhere is the event bigger than in the United States, with Halloween costumes modelled on monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils and American cities are full of parades of citizens dressed up in outlandish costumes and sporting painted faces.
In New York, up to two million New Yorkers turn out for the spectacular procession of monstrous figures parading up Sixth Avenue, from Spring Street to 21st Street, so if you were thinking of visiting the Big Apple at some point this year, what better time to go? trailfinders.com can advise on the best deals on airfares and have a list of hotels.
However if you’re looking for something closer to home, try the Spandau Citadel, Berlin, where locals and visitors dress up and party in the best preserved Renaissance fortress in Europe and the oldest building in Berlin.
The Spandau Citadel, one of the most visited cultural centres in Berlin, offers a rich year-round cultural programme, exhibitions, concerts and other activities for all age groups. The Halloween Party takes place at the Citadel on the 31st of October with a Halloween disco and full programme of events, including witch dancing, fire-eaters and more.
Easy Jet flies to Berlin from Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Manchester.
