Sitting on top of the world?
If you’re looking for a highly civilised destination, Vancouver is the place to go. The Economist Intelligence Unit has just named it the world's 'most liveable' city for the fifth year running, reports the Daily Mail. The survey ranks cities based on 30 factors which include culture and environment, personal safety and infrastructures, so tourists as well as residents can experience the up-side. Canada in general scores high, with 3 of its cities in the world’s top five.
Perched on the west coast of Canada, Vancouver is a city where green is more than just a flattering colour. Committed to sustainability, it aims to be the greenest city in the world by 2020. Canada Place (www.canadaplace.ca), is considered the gateway to the city and its pier makes a great place to enjoy spectacular views of the ocean and the magnificent North Shore mountains. Or take a boat tour and go whale watching.
Just ten minutes away you can shop in Robson Street (www.robsonstreet.ca), Vancouver’s most trendy shopping district where designer giants Armani, Ferragamo and Gap hang out. Then head to the 9km, 1,000 acre Stanley Park for an afternoon stroll, or hire a bike or rollerblades from stores on nearby Denman Street. The park also has access to several beaches where you can picnic and sunbathe. Nearby English Bay beach makes a great place to unwind and watch the sunset at the end of the day.
