If, for you and that special person, Paris is a truly romantic city, you might be prepared to push the boat out, dip your hand in your pocket and stay somewhere posh in the chic French capital. We’ve searched the web and come up with the pick of the bunch from a list recommended by the Telegraph.
On the Seine’s Left Bank, what could be grander than the Hôtel d'Aubusson (33 rue Dauphine; www.hoteldaubusson.com)? Housed in a stately 17th-century residence in St-Germain-des-Prés, the hotel has a sweeping carriageway entrance, high-ceilinged bedrooms and a tapestry-hung salon complete with a warming log fire in its massive stone fireplace (pictured). Prices for a double room start at €280, but you can get good deals in February.
Just a little cheaper is the Hôtel de l'Athénée (19 rue Caumartin, www.hotel-athenee.com), where doubles start from €220. This cosy new 20-room hotel, decorated by Jacques Garcia, is conveniently close to the big department stores for the January sales. Opera lovers will get a kick out of bedrooms themed according to La Traviata, Don Giovanni, Aida and Faust.
And at almost half the price, you can stay at the Relais Montmartre (6 rue Constance, www.hotel-relais-montmartre.com) where doubles start at €125. The Relais is a small, good-value romantic hotel halfway up Montmartre hill, where you can enjoy a relaxed Montmartre experience.
