Planning on walking the ‘Camino de Santiago’ this year? Try this hotel stop and treat yourself to at least one night of luxury!
Walking the famous ‘Camino de Santiago de Compostela’ from Roncesvalles across northern Spain, is as popular now as ever. Modern day pilgrims can embark on the much beloved walk at any time of year but many aim to reach the town’s iconic Cathedral, the Obradoiro, for the feast day of St James on the 25th of July. It’s Galicia's national day and celebrations abound.
Santiago offers trekkers splendid and plentiful cuisine, Albariño wine (an excellent white) to accompany arguably the best seafood in Spain and a beautiful old town with cobblestoned streets and plenty of character.
You can walk, cycle or do the route on horse-back and there are a number of recognized hostels along the way where you can stay cheaply and rest your aching legs. It’s not cheating however if you treat yourself to a little luxury by opting to go more up-market for accommodation, at least once during the long walk.
