Party in Paris

A winter in Paris is a dream for any art enthusiast. It has just celebrated the Festival des Inrockuptibles, the country’s largest annual music fest, but Paris is sure to win you over with upcoming events such as art, food and wine exhibitions. The best treat Paris has to offer, however, goes to all the fashionistas with this year’s timely Fashion Week in January and grand sales – heaven!

For art enthusiasts, late winter is the perfect time to explore some of Paris’ renowned museums – The Louvre and Musee d’Orsay. Walk leisurely through the halls of these fantastic repositories and bask in the beauty of some of the world’s best pieces like the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo at The Louvre. Various French sculptures and impressionist paintings by van Gogh, Renoir, Monet and Cezanne, on the other hand, can be seen at the Orsay. Winter isn’t exactly peak season, so there won’t be long lines.

The months of January through March kick off the year with Art exhibits featuring the works of Gustave Courbet, Rodin, Miro, Warhol, Picasso and Goya, to name a few. Photography exhibits by Lee Miller and seafood and wine exhibitions are other shows to look forward to. Meanwhile, the theatre goers will enjoy the very popular Moulin Rouge cabaret which offers two shows every night. Ticket prices range from GBP 80 to GBP 172. If you’re traveling with your kids, Le Roi Lion (The Lion King) at the Theatre Mogador is an exciting alternative.

The city showcases Fashion Week from the 26th to the 28th of January at the Carrousel du Louvre featuring Haute Couture Spring and Summer collections for women. The Fall / Winter 2009 – 2010 collections for men will be showcased on the 22nd to the 25th of January as well. But if you haven’t gotten your front row tickets, then maybe you’ll have the best time buying designer labels at the grand sales. So, get your checkbook ready for the most thrilling shopping experience of your life!
