Perhaps in an attempt to make up to the world, (or Europe at least,) for having spawned Hitler, the Austrians have made a damn serious job of serving up the best, most delicious tarts since Willy Wonka was last seen knocking about town. In fact, if Mr. Wonka were to build another chocolate factory, without doubt it would be in Vienna. Even he, however, would likely get addicted to the triple layered liquer coffees that are served in every coffee house.
Going for an early spring weekend means you'll have a good chance of snow, though that should add to the romance. If you thrive on intellectual discussion, drop into Café Central (Herrengasse 14), the preferred hangout of Lenin and Trotsky in their pre-revolution days, or, for more basic stimulation, try a hot Buchtel (jam-filled bun) at Café Hawelka (Dorotheergasse 6).
