Mauritius: paradise in the sun.
Located some 2000 km off Africa’s east coast, Mauritius is a renowned tropical paradise complete with white beaches and palm trees. Easily accessible from the UK with flights from both Heathrow and Gatwick, it's the perfect place to relax and shake off those winter blues .
And there are so many beaches to chose from. Head for Belle Mare’s pristine white sands on the east coast (the name says it all) or Flic en Flac on the west coast, the island's longest beach. Tamarin Bay is also a must-stop, for its spectacular scenery, a blend of mountains, beaches and the Black River, reports the Telegraph.
If you want a change from lounging on the sand, visit the Black River Girges, a designated Unesco national park, home to unique flora and fauna such as the Mauritius flying fox, and further along the coast, Le Morne mountain, where escaped slaves used to hide out, is a poignant stop off. You can get a feel of how life was at the Sugar Factory Museum, where you can look around an old plantation and the Pamplemousses Gardens, one of the world’s top botanical gardens.
