Liverpool is known across the world for producing The Beatles and two rather good football teams - but this magnificent port city has even more to offer!
With its fine architecture, classical and contemporary art galleries and friendly inhabitants, it's no wonder this metropolis, on the banks of the Mersey, has been compared to New York.
Fresh from the city's celebrations as European Capital of Culture in 2008, there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and shops to enjoy, so it's an ideal place for a short break.
Here are just some of the excellent Liverpool city centre hotels available to you.
- Jurys Inn - Located on Kings Waterfront, next to the Echo Arena and Albert Dock, this hotel is perfectly placed if you've booked tickets for a concert at the arena. It is just minutes from Tate Liverpool, the Beatles Museum and the city's new shopping centre. All the rooms are en-suite and families are welcome.
- Crowne Plaza - This superb hotel is situated next to one of Liverpool's most iconic landmarks, the Liver Building by the River Mersey. There are double, family and accessible guest rooms on offer, while upgrading to a club room will get you exclusive use of the Club Lounge. King suites are also available, plus the hotel has a health club and brasserie.
- Hard Day's Night Hotel - A must for all Beatles fans! This is a tastefully themed hotel, recently stayed in by Justin Bieber when he came to perform at the Echo Arena. The Grade II listed building has luxury and deluxe rooms and - wait for it - a McCartney Suite and a Lennon Suite. The Lennon comes complete with white piano and wonderful city views.
- Atlantic Tower - This newly-refurbished 225 room hotel has great waterfront views and is a very short distance from the museums and Liverpool One shopping and restaurant area. It is located next to St Nicholas Church, the oldest of its kind in the city.
