Check out the regal Adlon Kempinski on lastminute hotels

If the Hotel Adlon Kempinski on Berlin's wide, leafy boulevard Unter den Linden, looks fit for a queen, that's because it is - along with presidents, politicians and celebrities.

This stately hotel has played host to Queen Elizabeth, the Prince of Wales, President Bill Clinton and Mikhael Gorbachev, to name but a few, and it's our pick of the lastminute hotels for this week.

There are 304 deluxe rooms, 33 junior suites, 42 suites and three luxury Presidential Suites to choose from, plus six restaurants, three of which have attained a coveted Michelin Star for their dazzling cuisine.

With a swimming pool, gym and day spa with saunas, steam baths and pampering treatments, it would be tempting never to leave the hotel, but the building is ideally located beside the Brandenburg Gate - some rooms offer stunning views of the iconic landmark - and just a few minutes' walk from the Reichstag.

It's safe to say, though, that visitors would be doing some sightseeing inside this lavish hotel, too. Huge chandeliers sparkle above your head, punctuated by marble columns dotted across the grand lobby and dining rooms.

Afterwards, relax in the Shochu Bar and sample an exotic Japanese cocktail infused with saffron, bergamot or jasmine.

But if you do nothing else, you have to try the Adlon Afternoon Tea in the Lobby Lounge - quail's egg, mousse of foie gras, followed by classic German cakes and the mandatory scone with jam and cream. This is offered with an unlimited refill of tea. To make it extra special, add in a glass of 1999 Moët Chandon Vintage Brut Millésime.

You can check out more details of this stunning venue through the lastminute hotels website at lastminute.com, which offers great discounts on top range accommodation.
