If you’re looking for a winter hotel and spa break, head for Lime Wood in the New Forest.
Jamie Cullum married here in January 2010 and it’s not hard to see why. Lime Wood (www.limewoodhotel.co.uk) is a swanky new hotel 20-minutes' walk from Lyndhurst, built in country-house fashion with a Regency-style limestone exterior that blends perfectly with the fabulous scenery of the New Forest. Guests receive a list of recommended walks to be enjoyed in the surrounding countryside and you’re quite likely to spot deer in Denny Wood, just behind the hotel, reports the Daily Mail.
There are also plenty of reasons to spend some time indoors, with ground floor rooms for reading, chatting and drinking and a smart restaurant serving creative meals made with local produce such as wild mushrooms, venison and home-reared beef, lamb and pork. For those who prefer something less formal, try The Scullery, which serves heartier, less fancy dishes. Bedrooms are seriously stylish with art deco-style marble bathrooms, four-poster beds and retro phones.
Herb House, Lime Wood’s spa, opened in December and offers blissful treatments of all kinds and de-stress massages. There’s also an outdoor steaming hot pool, sauna, steam room and hydropool.
The ‘celebrity’ experience doesn’t come cheap. Rooms start at £245, hot breakfast is an extra £17.50, cold buffet breakfast £12.50. Dinner costs £40.00 for two courses and a de-stress massage £75 for an hour’s session. However, you will come away feeling like new.
