An inspiration for poets, artists, and millions more who love the area's sheer natural beauty, Lake Windermere in the Lake District is a holiday haven.
The tranquil surroundings - gracious mountains, shimmering water - combined with tasty tea rooms and quaint gift shops make it the perfect place to visit on your own, with the family, or on a romantic break.
When it comes to hotels in Windermere, you really are spoilt for choice, but here are three little gems that we came across on our travels.
- Cedar Manor Hotel and Restaurant - Located just a short stroll from Windermere village, this family run hotel, was built in 1854 as a private country retreat. There are 11 en-suite rooms, some of which have spa baths - ideal after a day's walking in the hills. All the guest rooms have TV and free Wi-Fi. The hotel's two AA rosette restaurant pride themselves on local produce and there is also a lounge with handy maps to help you find another Lakeland walk to enjoy!
- Windermere Boutique Hotel - Boutique hotels are certainly in vogue, and this luxury hotel, located in the heart of the village, is beautifully decorated. It is also conveniently close to restaurants, bars, shops and, of course, that all-important lake. Some of the suites have outdoor hot tubs or separate lounge areas while others also have luxury bathrooms featuring spa massage baths for two.
- White Lodge Hotel - This Victorian country house has spacious guest rooms with modern comforts including en-suite bathrooms, TV, and tea and coffee making facilities. Home-cooked fare is on offer every evening in the friendly, antique furniture-adorned dining room, and guests can partake of a traditional full English breakfast each morning.
