Hot events for a London Summer
Whilst the world and his wife may be soaking up the sunshine on some distant shore, or hot-footing it across some Mediterranean cultural hot-spot, we dish out the feast of treats ol' Blighty has in store for us all this Summer.
The V&A Museum is currently hosting an exhibition of Grace Kelly's finest couture, ranging from personal items worn to premieres and galas alike to custom-made designer outfits, created specially for the style icon herself. If you go during the working week, don't forget to look out for curator Matt Storey who can give you the lowdown on the labels. Art-wise, pop over to Royal Academy for an education in landscape painting by John Singer Sargent and compare the weather you may be enjoying to those of his seascapes and coastal scenes.
Those of the aural persuasion should take in Somerset House's cool neoclassical structure whilst waiting for its various music acts to begin. This season sees the Mystery Jets, Noah and the Whale and the Divine Comedy play and for those who enjoy opera, a three day showing of live performances of Billy Budd and other operas on a large outdoor screen set up in the courtyard.
For flowers galore, check out the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show celebrating its 20th anniversary, and don't forget that Kew Gardens has a variety of concerts taking place in its grounds over the coming months, including Jools Holland and Bjorn Again. Don't forget to get your tickets for the capital's festivals such as Lovebox and the Wireless Festival. Better get planning!
