Book your holidays to Sardinia this year!

Holidays to Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean, are becoming very popular and with good reason. The island enjoys a fabulous climate with hot sunshine for at least six months of the year. It has miles and miles of golden sandy beaches and many ancient monuments.

Most travel companies such as Thomas Cook and Thomson offer package deals to Sardinia. Holidays Direct has some special late offers that can be looked up on their website.

Sardinia has three airports, Aeroporto Elmas near the capital Cagliari, Aeroporto di Costa Smeralda at Olbia in the northeast and Fertilia in the northwest. Flights arrive at these airports from most European countries. Lastminute.com and cheapflights.co.uk are worth looking up to find a good deal on flights. Ryanair also flies to Sardinia and has often discounted flight prices.

An alternative way to travel to Sardinia is to catch a ferry. Ferries depart from the Italian ports of Civitavecchia, Fiumicino, Genoa, La Spezia, Livorno and Naples. Moby Lines and Tirrenia are just two of the ferry operators.

Car hire is recommended if you wish to travel around the island as the train service is limited. Buses go to just about everywhere but are often slow and infrequent. Most major car hire companies, such as Avis and Hertz, have offices at the three main airports. In various towns and coastal resorts on the island you will find local car rental agencies. Ruvioli Rentacar in Cagliari and New Happy Cars in Olbia are two of the well known local car rental agencies.

Booking.com is a useful website to check for hotel and guesthouse accommodation in every location on Sardinia.

It is certainly a great idea to book holidays to Sardinia this year.
