Eureka Skydeck 88
The Skydeck boasts the highest viewing platform in the southern hemisphere and offers panoramic views of Melbourne and its surrounds. Opening hours are from 10am to 10pm. For the best experience go just before dusk to get views of the city at day and as night falls.
Queen Victoria Market
This is one of the largest markets in Australia and has been in operation since 1878. Almost half of the market is dedicated to selling variety and speciality goods and the rest is used for fresh produce. It is a great place for buying souvenirs and handmade gifts.
Melbourne Aquarium is located in the CBD area on the banks of the Yarra River. It includes a range of fish and sea life both big and small. There are a number of events on each day including turtle feeds, shark feeds and penguin talks.
Melbourne Cricket Grounds
For all sports fans, a visit to the MCG is a must. The G, as it is known locally, is one of the best sports venues in Australia and frequently hosts AFL and cricket games. Tours of the stadium depart regularly 10am to 3pm. The National Sports Museum is also located within the grounds.
Old Melbourne Gaol
The Old Melbourne Gaol is a 19th century prison that now offers tours to members of the public. The Gaol was once home to the notorious bushranger Ned Kelly and the cell he stayed in is still intact.
