Gungate hotel in Tamworth: Everything you need to know about it
The Gungate hotel in Tamworth is a conveniently located recently remodelled 3*AA guest house that always seems to get the same review from its guests. Those reviews basically say that it’s a clean and conveniently located guest house that serves excellent breakfasts. But that’s not how Channel 5’s The Hotel Inspector put it.
The Hotel Inspector
Aside from complaints about meerkat ornaments and a few other minor issues, some of which did cause the owner Sue Tipton to shed a tear, the show wasn’t too harsh on her or the way she runs the hotel. When filming finished, Sue applied for the AA rating of three gold stars and the AA breakfast award, both of which she received. Being part of The Hotel Inspector has improved the Gungate for future guests and the AA rating means that the hotel is now included in tourism brochures.
Is it worth a visit?
The Gungate hotel in Tamworth offers single, twin, double, triple and family rooms. The starting rate for a single is £35 per night, rising to £85 for the family room that sleeps four. It’s situated within easy reach of places like Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo, Tamworth Castle and the Snow dome Indoor Ski Centre. Twycross Zoo and Conkers kids outdoor discovery centre are also within reach.
There is a restaurant and bar within the guest house and all public and private spaces are non-smoking. If you’re travelling on business, there are facilities for meetings and you’ll have access to a fax machine and photocopier. Wi-fi is free of charge and it’s available across the whole hotel.
As a result of the Gungate’s appearance on TV, the owner was put in touch with Tamworth's tourism and town centre development officer Stacey Birt, so thanks to the show the Gungate hotel in Tamworth will now be involved with more initiatives in Tamworth than ever before, which can only be good news for future guests.
