Grab some culture in Glasgow

One of the lesser known gems of Glasgow however is the Burrell Collection. A short drive from the city centre, this collection of art and objects is housed at Pollok Country Park. In 1944, Sir William Burrell and his wife Lady Constance gifted their collection of over 9000 pieces to the city of Glasgow. An art collector since his teens, Sir William had collected pieces from all over the world and from many different periods of history.

The collection includes works by Degas and Cezanne, Epstein and Rodin as well as ancient Islamic and Chinese works of art. There are pieces of antique furniture and tapestries from Medieval times as well as some ancient structural pieces such as archways built for lords and ladies that have been incorporated into the building.

If you fancy seeing these works of art, as well as taking a trip outside of Glasgow to see the breathtaking scenery then have a look on Easyjet, bmi, flybe or British Airways, who all fly regularly from UK airports to Glasgow.
