Going solo doesn’t mean you need to be home alone at Christmas.
You may be quite happy to be independent and single throughout the year, but come Christmas time feel you need a little more than a glass of sherry alone in front of the TV. If this is the case, take a look at specialized hotels with experience of organizing a magical Christmas for single people. We’ve searched the web and come up with the following suggestions, as recommended by the Telegraph.
Try Grayshott Spa in Surrey (01428 602020; www.grayshottspa.com) Although its single rooms have all been booked for Christmas, classic rooms can be booked for sole occupancy, at no extra charge (subject to availability). The hotel organizes a three-night package which includes a champagne reception to get you off on the right foot, carol singers and candlelit dinner on December 24.
There’s a healthy walk to clear your head on Christmas morning, followed by a traditional lunch. There’s also an outing to a local production of Sleeping Beauty and evening entertainment on Boxing Day. Prices start at £890 per person, which includes one massage.
If you prefer something a little more energizing and out of the way, what about Altachorvie Country House on the Isle of Arran? HF Holidays (0845 470 7558, www.hfholidays.co.uk) use the 34 room house for its six-night Festive Walking for Solos holiday. The programme includes walks on the island’s coastline, moorland and the glacial valley of Glen Rosa. There’s also dancing, communal carols and a gala dinner. Rates start at £769 per person and include full board (there’s an extra £7 nightly supplement for a single room).
