Flights to Edinburgh from Gatwick
Trains to Edinburgh are fine if you are in central London or on the main East Coast line north. If you live on the south coast, flights to Edinburgh from Gatwick are the easiest and fastest way to get to the Scottish capital for Hogmanay, the Festival or just a weekend break.
British Airways (britishairways.com) fly direct from London Gatwick to Edinburgh up to 4 times a day. Their lowest fares are £39 each way including taxes, fees, charges and surcharges. There is a £4 extra charge for payment with credit cards.
EasyJet (easyjet.com) offers direct flights from London Gatwick to Edinburgh, with fares starting at £18.99 outbound and £21.99 inbound. These fares include all taxes, but there will be additional charges for checked baggage and for credit card purchases. Their flights depart 3 times daily, early in the morning, early afternoon and early evening.
From Edinburgh airport it is easy to get into the city centre using the Airlink 100 bus (flybybus.com). These depart regularly from outside the terminal, with a 30 minute journey to Edinburgh. Fares are £3.50 single and £5 return. Lothian city buses service 35 also stops at the airport. The fare is only £1.30, but it can take an hour or more to get into the city.
Note that at busy times of the year, particularly at New Year or the beginning of August, flights to Edinburgh from Gatwick will be very popular, so it's advisable to book several months in advance of travel.
