Cruise from Southampton to the Canary Islands with a ‘celebrity’ fellow passenger.
Saga (saga.co.uk/cruises, 0800 50 50 30) is offering a 14-night cruise to the Canary Islands, departing on the 23rd of November this year. For those with green fingers and an interest in gardening, or if you’d simply like to learn more about a kind of vegetation that’s different from what you’ll find back home, sign up now: Chris Beardshaw of BBC Gardeners' World will be a fellow passenger, on hand to answer questions about the endemic flora of both the Canaries, Madeira and Morocco, reports the Daily Mail. It’s the ideal way of giving a fun educational slant to your sunbathing.
Saga Pearl 2 has recently been refurbished to give it a more contemporary feel. The cruise ship will be island-hopping between the lush volcanic islands of La Palma, Tenerife, La Gomera and Gran Canaria, one hundred miles west of the Moroccan coast. It’s the particular geographic position of these islands that has enabled the conservation of many kinds of tropical and sub-tropical vegetation which in the past could be found in the Mediterranean basin but has since disappeared.
Remember that if you’re single, about a quarter of the cabins on Saga’s two ships are for single occupancy, a real plus for solo travellers, but book well ahead, as they are almost always a sell-out. Dance hosts are also on hand in the evening to provide a partner.
Prices start at £1,569pp for 14 nights.
