Trying to organise a flight can be frustrating. There are so many places to do it: flight comparison sites, travel agents, through each individual airline... Although all these are good tools for comparing prices, it can be a long, boring process.
Some airlines’ websites are complex and will not give you a price unless you know the exact dates that you want to fly. And many of them have more small print than you would get with a mortgage!
In order to find the cheapest flights to Australia, you will need to do a bit of homework. Most importantly is to book a date as far in advance as possible. This gives the best chance of finding a good deal.
If you want peace of mind then go through a travel agent - things can easily go wrong when arranging a flight online; if you accidentally tick the wrong box or enter the wrong date and don’t notice you are snookered. But you will pay more through a travel agent than you would independently.
Skyscanner.net is a fantastic site for looking up flights, and getting an idea of the price and the airlines that fly the route you are looking for. You simply enter where you want to fly from and where you want to go. If you aren’t fussy you can check several airports in one search, which is handy as not many websites allow you to do this.
We were originally going to suggest that you use Skyscanner to find the cheapest flights and then go to the company’s own website to book. When we entered a London to Perth flight, the cheapest that Skyscanner returned was Air Asia for £568. Then we went to the Air Asia’s website and found the same flight going for £416. But of course after reading small print, we realised that this didn’t include taxes. When these were added, the total came to £568. Skyscanners prices are inclusive of taxes, so you'll find all the details you need in one easy step.
