With the economic blah-de-blah, it looks like we’ll be too skint this year for carnival in Rio or Trinidad. So it's been decided once again to nip back to Tenerife to catch some winter sun and join the street party at Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
While the bigger celebrations take place in the capital, Santa Cruz, here at Puerto de la Cruz you can hit the beach after the parade. Thomas Cook, are currently offering a Tenerife Carnival package for seven nights from £350 per person (based on three adults sharing), including a three-star, self-catering stay at Casablanca Apartments in Puerto de la Cruz and Gatwick to Tenerife flights departing 20 Feb. 0844 412 5970, thomascook.com
But being lucky enough to have a contact down there last year who booked us into El Patio, in Garachico, Tenerife we'd definitely recommend going for the flights only and then sorting your own accommodation online.
Seriously, during Carnival, you’ll need somewhere to really get away from it; swim, sleep, shower and snooze. Clean sheets, soft, fluffy white towels and a freshly squeezed juice in bed while you contemplate functioning is exactly what'll see you through the carnival - it’s the only way you’ll make the whole week.
The El Patio, and others like it are old manor houses that have been converted into holiday accommodation for anything from a couple up to 8 people. They’re far enough away from the centre to give you some proper RnR, but close enough for when you’re ready to go again.
