Alberta is one of the most scenic states in Canada. It is home to the Canadian Rockie Mountains and some of the largest and most incredible national parks in the country. The Banff & Jasper National Parks are areas of outstanding natural beauty, both located in the Rockies region. Alberta is packed full of picture perfect landscapes - you won't be short of unbelievable locations for Canadian lakeside holidays.
Lake Louise, also in Alberta, is known as 'The Jewel of the Rockies'. It is located in the Banff National Park, about 37 miles north-west of Banff Town. The lake itself is a beautiful eggshell blue colour and is surrounded by towering mountains, with the Victoria Glacier at one end. As well as Lake Louise itself, there are a number of glacial lakes in the area - Moraine Lake, Bow Lake and Peyto Lake.
In summer, you can canoe on the lake or head into the mountains for some hiking or climbing. Wintertime sees the area transform into a top class ski resort. For a magical experience, try ice-skating or take a horse-drawn sleigh ride.
