Budapest has become an increasingly trendy destination with its excellent cuisine, grandiose buildings and ruin pubs and there’s plenty of good value accommodation available too. One of the best is the centrally located Gerloczy Rooms de Lux on the Pest side of town.
Originally a stylish café and restaurant, the excellent eatery remains but the rooms above have been converted into a 15 room three storey boutique hotel, decorated in rather grand Imperial style. Some rooms come with balconies that overlook a charming square with lots of continental atmosphere. Indeed it was the area’s Parisian feel that caused film director Stephen Spielberg to film scenes supposedly set in the French capital in Gerloczy in his 2005 film ‘Munich’.
The hotel is off the main streets but central enough for you to walk to the Pest waterfront, the market and city sights, and it consistently receives rave reviews on just about everything: the service, style, cleanliness and the excellent restaurant.
Doubles start from £100 per night. Visit www.gerloczy.hu for further details and booking. Easy Jet flies to Budapest from London’s Gatwick and Luton airports.
