In these cost conscious times, why not look closer to home and pick a UK destination for your next holiday getaway?
The advantage of being a small island is that there are plenty of lovely British holiday resorts to explore.
So whether you are looking for somewhere to take the kids, or a fun, romantic break for two, there's bound to be something that ticks all the right boxes. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started!
- Blackpool - The mother of all seaside resorts, this friendly Lancashire town has something for all ages. If you're a thrill seeker, head for the Pleasure Beach Resort with a whole host of white-knuckle rides including the Pepsi Max Big One and Infusion. Ride a donkey on the sands of the Golden Mile, or try your luck at the amusement arcades. A must-visit is Blackpool Tower, home of ballroom dancing and the Tower Circus. Enjoy the magnificent view from the top of the tower - but will you be able to hold your nerve and walk on the glass floor? If you visit between September and November, you'll be enchanted by the world famous Illuminations, which make the prom dazzle.
- Skegness - Lincolnshire's bracing coastal town has been a visitor magnet for generations. Skegness Pier, which has been standing in the North Sea for more than a century, has attractions by the bucket and spade-ful, including ten pin bowling, amusement arcades, and a kids' soft toy play area. A great place to spend a few hours is Natureland, where you can feed the pets or watch the relaxing movement of the coral fish. The National Parrot Sanctuary - the UK's only registered one of its kind - is well worth a visit, too.
We hope this has given you some ideas for interesting British holiday resorts!
