Browse, buy and boogie at the Edinburgh Festival.
From imposing castles and historic buildings to awesome pipers and elegant tearooms, the Scottish capital is always a pleasure to visit, but August is a very special time of year as thousands flock to the world famous Edinburgh Festival.
In fact, it’s not just one but a series of festivals, with the Edinburgh Fringe already in action this weekend with weird and wonderful performances happening until the 29th of the month. The book festival starts next weekend, running from the 13th-29th, the fabulous International Festival will be entertaining visitors from the 12th until the 3rd of September, and there’s a weekend three-day TV festival for telly addicts (and media pundits) from the 26th-28th.
But if you’re not a book worm, and theatre on holiday is a little high brow, sign up for the 2011 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. From the 5th-27th of August performers from four continents will provide top-notch entertainment on the spectacular floodlit esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. Not only will you be wowed by the Massed Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancing, but there’ll be, amongst many other international artists, a Dutch Mounted Bicycle Band. Enjoy!
