Book a cheap flight now and visit Valencia, a city that never slows down.
With the town’s huge favourite ‘fiesta’ the ‘Fallas’, over for another year, Valencia is not a city to rest on its laurels. Preparations are under way for San Juan (St. John’s day) in June which is celebrated with bonfires, and the European Grand Prix which will take place on the 26th of June, with a race around the town’s 3.5-mile street circuit, which includes the port area with its gleaming marina.
In town before then? Why not visit the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (www.ivam.es) which is host to an exhibition on the works of post-surrealist Roberto Matta, who inspired important artists such as Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell.
Don’t forget to visit the City of Arts and Sciences complex, designed by the renowned Valencian architect, Santiago Calatrava. Upbeat and futuristic it contrasts with the old centre with its cobbled streets, ancient churches, Unesco heritage-listed medieval market and Baroque palaces. The Barrio del Carmen, as it is called, is not only famous for its architectural treasures such as the silk Exchange (La Lonja de la Seda), and its Cathedral, but also houses numerous atmospheric bars and restaurants where you can sample the delicious local cuisine.
Throw in a seriously lively night life and you have more than enough reasons to book a budget flight with Easy Jet or Ryan Air to one of Spain’s most vibrant cities.
