Travelling around Europe is a great opportunity to see and experience new cultures, and for many travellers it is important to stay in contact with loved ones. Depending on your intended usage and length of time travelling, the best SIM Card for you to use around Europe may differ.

On July 1, 2014, the European Union amended the Roaming Regulations which puts a cap on roaming calls for EU citizens who are traveling within the EU and informs them as to roaming charges they may incur. The current charges are 18.8p/minute for outgoing calls and 4.9p/minute for incoming. Text messages are 5.9p/message with free incoming texts and data usage for 19.8p/Mb.

If you are already on Three’s mobile network, they offer an All in One plan that can be used in certain EU countries including Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Once you top up by £10 customers will receive 500MB of data, 3,000 text messages and 100 minutes calls to the UK which is valid for 30 days.

Sometimes though it is cheaper to purchase a local SIM card, especially if you are staying for an extended period of time. Once your phone is unlocked, the options are endless.
