Belgium has numerous hidden gems that are becoming more popular to visit every year. With such a great selection of sights and cities to choose from it can be hard to know where to start. One of the obvious and most well known places to visit is the capital city of Brussels. Whether you are coming by plane or train, it is easy to start exploring as soon as you arrive. Home of the European Union and NATO, this city is full of unique and distinct attractions. While you nibble on one of the delicious local waffles, stroll around the medieval square commonly known as the Grand Place and take in the Guildhalls that prominently appear.
If you are looking to spend time somewhere with a more vibrant nightlife, Antwerp is the place to be. Known as "the world's leading diamond city", this place also is appealing to anyone interested in fashion, shopping, festivals or just having a great night out. During the day there are plenty historical sites to visit such as the gothic cathedral, Onze Lieve Vrouwekathedraal or the Museum Plantin-Moretus which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Bruges is a well kept medieval town that is perfect to explore by foot as cars are not permitted in and around the city center. This city is known as “the Venice of the North” as there canals here which you can take a nice trip on. Be prepared though for the high volume of tourists in Bruges, especially during weekends and peak season.
Spa is last but far from least as one of the top cities in Belgium to check out. This place is known as the Pearl of the Ardennes and is called Spa for a reason. Amongst the rolling hills and meandering river lies a city that offers hot spring water treatments at Les Thermes de Spa. After a relaxing day at the spa, you have the option to spend the night at the world’s first casino which was built in 1763.
