We'll kick off the list with our personal favourite. Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, located in South Shields, is situated right on the sea front and is open all year round. They take pride in being the largest amusement park in the North East of England. Admission to the park is free and you can pay per ride rather than pay one set daily fee. During the weekends and the summer there is an option of buying various wristbands that act as your ticket for certain rides and attractions and there are different types of tickets as well depending on what activities you want to do.
Ocean Beach boasts over 40 rides and attractions to choose from so there is bound to be something for every amusement park fan. Those that like to keep their feet on the ground should check out the mini golf and bowling alleys, or better yet, try the Urban Wave. This is a surf simulator that lets you experience different levels of difficulty while hitting the waves and not getting wet! While amusement parks in general can be expensive, look online for discounts before heading to the park to save yourself a few pounds. If you need a break from the park, you can always take a walk on the beach which is located only a few minutes away.
Second on the list is The Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach on the East coast in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. This place offers around 30 exciting rides along with arcades and other entertainment. One of the best things about this place is that they try and offer new rides every few years which keeps it exciting and new every time you visit. There is also a section called the Pleasure Beach Gardens, which offers a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of the park. If you feel up for it, have a round on the tricky miniature golf course that is nearby and you can relax afterwards in Sara's tearoom.
Finally, Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Fylde Coast in Blackpool, Lancashire. This park topped Trip Advisor's poll in 2014 as being the best theme park in the UK and also came in at 12th best park in Europe. With nearly 40 rides and 10 large rollercoasters, it is obvious to see why it is so popular. For big thrills to get your heart rate pumping, check out the dark and thrilling ride, Valhalla. Not only is it an extremely popular attraction, it is the most expensive in-house ride in the world at 15 million pounds. Infusion is another record-breaking ride being the first ever entirely suspended looping coaster over water in the world. Those travelling with children may want to opt for Nickelodeon Land for a more family oriented day. Full of Disney mascots and smaller rides, it is a friendly place is ideal younger children to run around in and have their fun.
