If you have a pet that you want to travel with it is important to find a good airline that will properly look after them on board. While most airlines offer some type of pet service, there are definitely some that are better than others. Here are a few airlines to truly consider booking with if flying with your pet.

German airline Lufthansa allows pets in the passenger cabin as long as they are under a certain weight or size. The airline staff will notify you when your pet is on board if they are too big for the cabin and are instead placed in the temperature-controlled cargo area. The biggest pet perk with Lufthansa though is their Animal Lounge. If you have a layover that is more than 3 hours in Frankfurt, there is a 4,000 square meter lounge area available for your pet to run around and mingle.
KLM was the first airline to ever transport live animals in the history of passenger jets. It is also one of the largest pet carriers in the world transporting everything from exotic fish to zoo animals from point A to point B. With KLM’s Animal Transport, your pet needs to be booked in at least 48 hours in advance and it will be well cared for before, during and after the flight.
People and Pets Dog Airlines is an American Company that is only for dogs. This is the first pet only airline that has great policies and pet treatment. Currently it only runs flights for their Charity arm, PAWFund, but the company is hoping to have regular flights to major airports across America starting in October 2015. Pilots have 24 hour access to veterinarians in case any urgent problem arises with pets on board.
Depending on the size of your animal and where you are flying, the airline you choose will vary. Whomever you decide to go with, make sure to read the airlines policy and make sure you have the correct kennel size, vaccinations and documents. Best of luck on the journey!
