How to get bargain flights
Paying less for your flights can really add up to big savings on your holiday. There are a number of methods you can use to get bargain flights, and here we look at some of the most reliable tactics and methods. Follow these tips to save money on flights bookings...
1. Always shop around
The price differences between airlines can be shocking. It's not uncommon to see one airline charge over ten times what another is offering. Air ticket pricing is a complex system, and you shouldn't assume that all airlines will be offering a similar deal. A good flights comparison site like Skyscanner.net can save you a lot of time - not to mention money - when comparing flight options and searching for bargain flights.
2. Travel off peak
Air fares tend to be at their most expensive during peak travel times (e.g. a Friday morning in July). Try to schedule your flights for a less popular travel time. Late night flights, flights very early in the morning, and flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays are often cheapest (depending on the route).
3. Book in advance
Finding a cheap last minute deal on a flight isn't very likely. In general, flights just get more and more expensive as the departure date approaches. In order to lock in the lowest fares, you'll usually have to book at least two months in advance. Once those seats start to sell out, the fares will soar. Charter flights (rather than scheduled flights) are often an exception to this rule.
4. Watch out for extra fees
A low cost flight can look like a great deal, but always read the fine print. Are taxes, surcharges, baggage fees, check in fees and credit fees included? Those bargain flights might not look so attractive when they are all added up. Always ensure that you are comparing like with like.
