A very special Christmas holiday in Lapland for single parent families.
If you’re a single parent wondering what to do to make this Christmas special for both you and your offspring, check out the ‘Small Families’ web site (www.smallfamilies.co.uk), which aims to solve the age-old holiday dilemma for single parent families.
If travelling overseas with young children seems daunting and even a little lonely, don’t despair. ‘Small Families’ provide adult company for you and friends for your children with escorted group holidays for single parents. You’ll be met by a holiday ‘host’ (not ‘rep’) at your destination airport, who will be on hand for support throughout your stay.
Small Families (0845 900 0895) currently still have a few places available on their seven-night Christmas in Lapland package, departing on the 21st of December, reports the Telegraph. Flights with Finnair and full board cost £1,573 for an adult and £1,210 for under 12s. It may not seem cheap but the price includes accommodation at the Hotel Ivalo, with sauna, dip pool and hot tub, all meals, plus a full programme of daily Christmas activities.
Experience husky driving, reindeer sleigh rides, quad biking, snowmobiles, and use of the hotel’s toboggans and sports equipment. Try snow-shoe walking, cross-country skiing or ice skating on the nearby outdoor rink. Visits to Santa's Reindeer farm and the Lapp museum Siida are also included.
On Christmas Eve the group takes snowmobile sledges to the forest, to enjoy hot juice and sausages grilled over an open fire and bring back a Christmas tree for the children to decorate. Full Christmas dinner in a restaurant is included with drinks on the night of the 25th. There’s also the daily luxury of afternoon 'children free time' while they watch a film. Magical!
