A quiet beach holiday in Croatia.
If you’re looking for a non-resort type beach on the Med that’s not too isolated, why not try Croatia’s small Kamenjak peninsula? Enjoy the wild rugged beauty of this undeveloped protected nature reserve, home to beautiful wildflowers, heath plants and shrubs, reports Lonely Planet. There are a number of tracks running through this mass of colour for you to explore, or just relax on one of the secluded rocky beaches or in one of the sheltered pebble bays. Locals head here in the summer to enjoy the turquoise waters and back-to-nature feel but there’s always an empty beach to be found.
You’ll be in good company: well respected super-nerd Bill Gates, one of the world's richest men, holidays fuss-free here in Croatia on the Dalmatian Coast with his family, choosing the small town of Skradin, about 100km from Split. Skradin, a town of fewer than 4,000 residents, lies at the entrance to the Krka National Park, home to a 15th-century monastery on Visovac Island, impressive waterfalls and the remains of a fortresses. Reportedly, the philanthropic billionaire has agreed to donate money to a charity clearing landmines left over from Croatia's 1991-95 war.
