Top things to do in Perth Australia
Perth, Western Australia's capital, is renowned for its isolated location in the south west of Australia. But that doesn't mean that there isn't plenty to do in and around the city. Here we look at some of Perth's best attractions, activities, and the must-do experiences while you are in Perth.
Hit the beach
In addition to its isolation, Perth, Australia is also famous for being one of the sunniest cities in the world. And its position on the fringes of the Indian Ocean takes full advantage of this. There are plenty of great beaches in and city and just outside of the city. Three of the most famous are City Beach, Cottesloe and Scarborough.
Fremantle, which is located just a short train ride from central Perth, has an entirely different vibe to its northern neighbour. You'll step off the train and feel like your a million miles away. In contrast to Perth's gleaming skyscrapers and glittering malls, Fremantle is an historic port town with plenty of boutiques and an artsy vibe. Don't miss a tour of Fremantle Prison - a former convict jail that was used right up until late last century.
Wander through Kings Park
Kings Park, located just west of Perth city centre, is a great place to spend an afternoon - or even a whole day. The expansive parkland contains natural bush, botanic gardens, a war memorial, a cafe, restaurant and a visitor centre, but the best part of the park is the sweeping views over the city skyline.
Cruise the Swan River
On a good day (and there are plenty in Perth Australia), the Swan River plays host to windsurfers, kayakers, paddle boaters and other assorted water sport lovers. If you're not feeling particularly active, take a cruise along the river to Fremantle, admire the city views and see the neighbourhoods that Perth's wealthiest residents call home.
