How to find bargain holidays online

When it comes to finding a great deal on a holiday, flights or a hotel, there are a number of ways to go about - but some methods are more successful than others. Here we offer some hints and tips to help you find the best bargain holidays online. Happy travels!

Use comparison sites

With so many good comparison sites dealing with travel and holidays, there's no excuse not to shop around to find bargain holidays online. Skyscanner.net is one of our all-time favourites. It allows you to search and compare all the major airlines flying thousands of routes. While most comparison sites ask you for an exact date, Skyscanner allows you to search for the best deals all month - and you can even keep your options open by comparing different airports near a destination. Comparing hotels is very straightforward - just log on to a couple of different booking sites (like Last Minute and Expedia) to compare hotels in your destination.

Use review sites

Of course, even the cheapest hotel may not be a good deal unless you get value for money. This is where review sites come in. It's hard to beat Tripadvisor for its (mostly!) neutral reviews and wealth of information from real guests. Just search online for "Tripadvisor [name of your hotel]"and you're likely to find pages of reviews and average ratings. One of the ratings is value for money - which is a good indicator of the hotel's services and facilities in relation to the price tag of a room.

Sign up for alerts

The best bargain holidays online sell out within a few hours. If you want to take advantage of them, it's a good idea to sign up for email alerts and newsletters from airlines, hotel chains and travel agents. Travel Zoo is excellent for bargain alerts and news flashes.
